The Phoenix Poverty Reduction Association was launched on the 5th October in 2000 in a partnership with the Department of Social Development. The initiative was informed by the large scale of poverty in the Phoenix and surrounding areas.

At least 60 % of the working population of Phoenix remain unemployed and the impact of this poverty can be clearly seen through the children that attend our schools in Phoenix. We assist learners mostly in the township of Phoenix but also reach out to learners in Inanda, Ntuzuma, Verulam and Tongaat.

It is with this understanding that educators of the Department of Education launched this non-profit organisation as a means to assist learners and their families with poverty relief.
